Copernicus; and other systems<\/strong><\/em> is a new body of work by Chanelle Walshe<\/strong> that includes found object assemblage, peculiar arrangements, and painting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walshe\u2019s sculptural strategy takes an elemental and molecular approach suggestive of DNA or planetary alignments. Her constructions find a precarious balance between a delicacy and intimacy, combined with the absurd and morbid. There is also an element of the internal revealed: skeletons, wires (nerves) and the \u2018guts\u2019 of things are her raw materials. It is this consistent way of seeing, or rather\u2026 sensibility, that connects her diverse strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walshe\u2019s images move between a combination of death and re-birth. Life begins, remains or pauses in states of love and\/or hardship. Walshe believes the possibility of these \u2018pauses\u2019 or times of limbo to be verified true by the evidence of extremophiles \u2013 organisms that can survive in extreme conditions that would otherwise be detrimental to most life on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chanelle Walshe graduated from NCAD in 2010. This is her third solo exhibition since 2009. Previous group shows include \u2018Future Perfect\u2019, The Hugh Lane Dublin City Gallery; The Royal Hibernian Academy 182nd Annual Exhibition, Dublin; and \u2018On Departure\u2019, The Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast. Walshe currently lives and works in Dublin and believes in oligotrophic environments, synchronicity, extraterrestrial activity and the existence of The Realm of Hades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FLOORONEGALLERY is a curatorial project by Temple Bar Gallery & Studios member Jim Ricks. It will feature three exhibitions this spring on the first floor only. In keeping with theme \u2018Generation\u2019 and events celebrating the Studio\u2019s 30th anniversary, this gallery will utilise the atrium space, an area of the building that was once used regularly for exhibitions. It follows an interest in activating unused and overlooked spaces, acting as agency for young artists and experimental projects, and encouraging uninhibited exhibition making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cling<\/em><\/strong>
John Ryan

Cling<\/strong><\/em> is a new installation by John Ryan<\/strong>. Having been granted the first floor atrium of Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, John will be exhibiting a large site specific installation alongside new studio work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John is interested in oils and plastics as both subjects of conceptual consumption and as vibrant materials that act on their own accord. For this exhibition, John has created a large body of work that will consume the walls of the atrium. These works act autonomously while at the same time conceptually and materially clinging to one another. Collectively, they form one large work: Cling<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, John\u2019s practice has been built around one phenomenon: paint is a liquid when removed from a tube and then solidifies as a response to air and gravity. In this new installation, the paint remains wet. Captured and tamed to stay fluid, this awkwardly malleablesubstance is used to form rugged yet fragile objects, lush and disturbing in their materiality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Ryan is an artist based in Pallas Projects in The Coombe. Recent group exhibitions have taken place in Block T in Smithfield; The Drawing Project in Dun Laoghaire; Beerslambert Contemporary in London; The Rebecca Hossack Gallery in London and Basic Space on Vicar Street. His first solo exhibition Polyptych Subsets: Experiments With Paint took place in The Joinery in Stoneybatter in December of 2011. He is the 2011 recipient of The Gilchrist-Fischer Award. In August 2013 his work will feature in the University of Minnesota Press publication Prismatic Ecologies: Ecotheory Beyond Green by literary theorist Jeffrey Jerome Cohen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still In Set<\/em><\/strong> is an exhibition of new sculptural work by Hannah Fitz<\/strong>. The show runs for one month in the FLOOR ONE GALLERY, opening on Wednesday the 7th of August with a video screening made in collaboration with Tanad Williams and Kevin A Freeney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hannah Fitz\u2019s sculptures result from a process of multiplying and exhausting the properties of materials in an attempt to encase themselves. The resulting solidity of their image can, like all representation, be moved by a text or remark. Their material self-expression grows, or self-generates, like a crystal: reaching a point situated just outside the sphere of the figurative subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collaborative video work gives an exhibition space to Fitz, Williams and Freeney\u2019s intentions, each one concentrating solely on the medium of their choice, language, sculpture, and video. As viewers of the peripheral production of culture\u2014 the actors interview\u2014 the tourists document exhibitions\u2014 the group uses these as privileged spaces of intersection between production and autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hannah Fitz is a founder and director of Basic Space, currently working in the Basic Space studio on Marrowbone Lane. She graduated from NCAD last year and began developing projects that re-situated the moment of artistic production. Curating an exhibition of proposed artworks for a building that no longer exists in A Proposed exhibition for the Irish House, Wood Quay<\/em>, and creating a real exhibition to take place within an independent feature film An Exhibition Composed as a Location for a Film in Which The Protagonist Goes to a degree Show in John\u2019s Lane on Tuesday and the Audience, Dressed Appropriately for the degree Show Context, Fills the Gallery Space as People Coming to See the Artworks and Most of the Work is Well Received<\/em>. Recent group projects include Launch<\/em> a handmade leisure boat launched into the Shannon for \u2018Circling the Square\u2019 for Gracelands as part of Eva International 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
